The Death of Photographs & Memories and the birth of Snap Happy

It's with a heavy heart that I write this obituary for Photographs & Memories. For those of you who have been wondering where I've been the last month, here is what happened:
One faithful morning, I was looking through my Google + account and noticed a lot of photos on my account from years of blogging. I didn't want people (and potential future employers) to be able to see the photos (there were even some photos I had erased from the blog there), so I erased all the photos on my Google + account. No harm done, right?
Wrong. That was a bad idea.
Later that night when I went to post to my lovely blog, I noticed something out of the ordinary: ALL MY PHOTOS FROM MY BLOG WERE GONE. Replaced by an ugly circle with a line through it.
I. Was. Devastated.
I quickly tried to recover the blog by plugging in my hard drive (which has ALL of my photos and which I was planning to back up any day...) and discovered another lovely sign that was out of the ordinary: "IMAGES CORRUPT". All of them. corrupt. Apparently my hard drive was formatted for PC, not Mac, so all the images from the past year that I had been storing on it were gone. GONE.
There were tears. Lots of tears.
So, not only did I lose my little baby child of a blog because without pictures it's pointless (I mean, it's called PHOTOGRAPHS and memories for a reason...), but I had no way of replacing them because my photos were gone. As you can see, I tried to resuscitate the blog a little, but my heart was damaged from this loss and I felt like I couldn't go on.
After weeks of stumbling around feeling like there was no purpose (at least no creative purpose anymore), I decided to end this journey. I have met so many amazing people through this blog and I truly cherish all that I have learned and shared with you.
HOWEVER, don't go yet, because I am excited to announce that I am not gone from the blogging world, as I've started a new adventure over at Snap Happy, a blog dedicated to recording life’s wild and precious adventures (sound familiar?). However, this outlet will focus less on me and more on photographing the world around me. I'm excited to embark on this adventure as I hope to have a more structured blogging schedule and be able to grown and develop my photography more through this platform.
Please PLEASE make sure to check out Snap Happy (it's still a work in progress but getting there) and make sure to come back and visit me again!

- Big Eats: the 411 on the best eateries in the area, with a few of my own recipes thrown in every once an a while.
- Nature's Playground: snapshots of the Bay Area's playgrounds for lovers of outdoor activities like hiking, camping, canoeing, and picnicking (my favorite).
- Lots and lots of photographs
- And probably some ramblings as I figure out how to navigate the difficult question of what I plan to do with my one wild and precious life

Give me lots of plaid, babies, and a chocolate cupcake and I am a happy girl! Colin's birthday was filled with giggles, bubbles, and a big ol' chocolate grin, which pretty much made my whole day. Happy first birthday Colin!

You see here this adorable little babe? This is Colin, and a few weeks ago I had the fortune of photographing his first birthday party, which his crafty mother made into a fully on farm hoedown. It was amazing, really. Martha Stewart would be proud.

I wouldn't necessarily call these things cookies- they aren't very cookie-like shaped and they crumble like crazy, but man, are they DELICIOUS! As probably realized by the super creative name I named them, these babies contain oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate chips, and I don't think I have to try to explain to you how heavenly that mixture is. PLUS they are gluten free. Oh yeahhhh.
Disclaimer: this recipe makes around 45 LARGE cookies so I advise cutting the recipe in half if you don't want to store half of the recipe in your freezer (which isn't such a bad thing in my book).
Ingredients:
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of white sugar
1 and 1/2 stick of butter
1 and 1/2 cups of creamy peanut butter
2 teaspoons of baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
4 and 1/2 cups of gluten free oats
3 cups of "extras" (I like chocolate chips, but you can also substitute for nuts)
Directions:
Set oven to 350 degrees
Cream together the sugars and butter
Add in the peanut butter, baking soda, vanilla and mix together
Add the eggs and mix together
Add in the oats and extras, mix together
Start to ball dough into cookies on cookie sheet (the dough might be crumbly but try to pack it tightly)
Cook for 10-15 minutes or until they are lightly brown on the bottom (bake for less time if you want them chewier).
Try not to each 10 of them in a row.
That's it! They are SUPER easy and seriously delicious. Enjoy!

Hey there friends, long time no talk. Sorry I've been
missing in action the past couple of weeks, but I’m back and ready to partay. I’ll
be playing catch up the next few weeks to try to recap all that has happened (I
make it sound like my life has been super exciting, but really it’s not), as
well as rolling out some new features and blog changes that I've been fantasizing

In celebration of the Women Tell All episode of the Bachelor last night, (which I still have yet to watch... don't ruin it for me!) I thought it was about time to post photos from the shoot I did with Daniella Mcbride, who was on this season of the Bachelor (Sean is a dummy for not choosing her in my opinion!). Daniella was SO much fun to work with and such an easy person to photograph because, as you can see, she is simply STUNNING. We had a blast choosing different outfits from clothes LF had let us borrow for the shoot and found some pretty dreamy locations in Mill Valley. Enjoy!

This past weekend Jack and I headed up north for a romantic get-a-way in Occidental. We stayed at the Inn at Occidental, a quaint little cottage with perfect little themed rooms (we were in the Sonoma Lodge, hence the tree bed and antler obsessions) and spent the weekend hiking, driving around daydreaming about buying acres of property, and gazing at the beach. It was just what I needed to take my mind off life and to enjoy to beautiful weather with my love.

the sleep of the beloved

Yesterday afternoon I discovered this fascinating story called "The Sleep of the Beloved" by Paul Schneggenburger, who photographed couples while they slept. I found these images hauntingly beautiful- from the fluid movement throughout the long exposure, to the different positions they slept in, to how some look like one combined person. I would love to know what they were dreaming about and if their movements had anything to do with their dreams...
I think dreams are so fascinating- the way you play can out stories and situations in your subconscious that might pertain to one random detail of something you saw or thought about during the day; how you might remember just a sliver of that dream even though if felt like hours when you were dreaming it; or when you wake up and for a split second you think your dream is real. I could go on for hours about dreams and your subconscious (Inception is one of my top 5 favorite movies because of this interest) but for now I'll leave you with these stunning images for you to contemplate for yourself what they were dreaming about.

This lovely lady is Sasha, a senior at San Dominico who has an amazing future ahead of her. Last time I saw Sasha she was a wee child, but over the years she's sprung up into a gorgeous babe! I mean really, just look at her! Those legs! And those eyes! They kill me.
I photographed Sasha and her friend Vanessa for their senior portraits a couple of weeks ago and we lucked out with some beautiful weather. We has a blast exploring the area and enjoying the sun. I can't wait to see where Sasha goes next year and what her future has in store for her!
